Camp Millican is a week-long day camp for kids ages 4-14 which promotes healthy discovery and outdoor adventures. We are located in south College Station, Texas, and are a program of the Millican Reserve Land Conservancy, whose mission is to maintain, restore, and educate the community about the remarkable landscape of Millican Reserve. As an outdoor summer experience, Camp Millican provides a fun, enriching week aimed at strengthening a child’s sense of well-being and cultivating a bond with nature.

Explorers Camp

Explorers  Camp is for children 4-6 years old. Explorers camps are 4 day camps that range from 8:30am-12:30pm These sessions are designed specifically for younger campers to provide an enriching outdoor learning experience. These younger campers will have the opportunity to explore nature from the ground up through playful adventures created just for early elementary aged kids.

Session 1: May 28-May 31

Session 2: June 24-June 27

Session 3: July 22-25

Pathfinders Camp

Pathfinders Camp: New enrollment guidelines: If your camper is not 7 years old by 1/1/2024, they must enroll in the Explorers Camp. Pathfinders Camps are 5 day camps Monday through Friday and are for children 7-10 years old (8:30am-2:30pm).  These sessions promote healthy discovery and outdoor adventures. As an outdoor program, Pathfinders Camp provides a fun, enriching experience aimed at strengthening a child’s sense of well-being and cultivating a bond with nature.

Session 1: June 10-14

Session 2: June 17-21

Session 3: July 8-12

Young Rangers Camp

Young Rangers Camp: New enrollment guidelines: If your camper turns 10 by 1/1/2024, you have the option to enroll in either our Pathfinders Camp or Young Rangers Camp. Young Rangers Camp are 5 day camps Monday through Friday and are for children 11-14 years old (8:30am-2:30pm). Young Rangers Camp is centered around adventure, leadership, communication, and team building. Young Rangers in their final year (14 years old) may have the opportunity to volunteer at Pathfinders Camp Sessions for no additional charge (limited availability per general camp session). Camp Activities

Here are some of the activities you can expect your camper(s) to enjoy:

    • Lifeguards are present and all swimmers wear life jackets

Meet the Staff

Chad Nelson, Camp Director


Dr. Chad Nelson received his Master of Science degree in Sport Management from Texas A&M University in 2015. Additionally, he obtained a Certificate in Non-Profit Management, Texas A&M University The Bush School of Government and Public Service. He joined the Health and Kinesiology Department as an Instructional Assistant Professor in 2015. In 2019, he received his Ph.D. in Youth Development in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Science (RPTS) from Texas A&M University and joined their faculty. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses that include areas of experience design, youth programming, youth camp management, and leadership. In the fall of 2022, he began working in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication.


He also served (2015-2022) as the Camp Director for a Texas A&M affiliated nonprofit organization, Deerfoot Youth Camp, which focuses on providing disadvantaged youth an opportunity to attend a sports-related camp in the summer for free to improve self-esteem, learn discipline and respect and encourage them to strive for excellence as students. Chad loves hiking with his family and teaching youth of all ages about the outdoors. Last and most proud position he holds is being a father to two lovely children and husband to an amazing bride, Candace.

LeAnne Pollock, Assistant Camp Director


LeAnne Pollock is passionate about youth-in-nature and natural resources. She graduated from Texas A&M University with her Master of Science in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism and has worked in youth programming for over 6 years in both educational and recreational programs. She has travelled with Texas 4-H Natural Resources, providing programming to 4-H groups across the state and is excited to bring some of that programming to Camp Millican.

FAQs

The tuition for each of the three camp programs (based on session) is:

Explorer’s Camp (4-6 year olds)     $250     (With early registration: $225)

Pathfinder’s Camp (7-10 year olds)     $295    (With early registration: $265.50)

Young Ranger’s Camp (11- 14 year olds)     $295   (With early registration: $265.50)

Camp Millican happens at Millican Reserve.

From College Station, head south on FM 2154 (Wellborn Road) towards Millican. Camp Millican is 4.2 miles south of the intersection of Wellborn Road and Greens Prairie Trail. The Camp Millican Staff will

 

Drop off/ Pick up

Enter Millican Reserve. The Camp Directors will communicate drop off/ pick up locations before camp begins. Below are the two drop off/ pick up locations.

  • The Marketplace: wooden structure will be in front on the right
  • The Boathouse: 1 mile from The Marketplace on the white rock road

Parking on Day 1 of Camp:

Turn into the open grassy parking area on the left, park in this area and we will meet you for check in!

Campers will stay at The Marketplace structure through drop off with counselors until all campers for the day are present and all vehicles have left

 

Campers are encouraged to bring:

  • A towel
  • A backpack/bag
  • A change of clothes
  • A swimsuit
  • Closed toed water-shoes for waterfront activities
  • Sunscreen
  • Labeled refillable water bottle
  • Any medication needed – presented to camp staff on arrival
  • Snack & Lunch for Camper
    • Labeled soft or hard sided lunch box
    • Explorer campers may be picked up at noon if you would prefer your child to not eat lunch at camp
  • Nature appropriate clothing
  • Closed toed shoes

 

 

Cancellation Policy

If parents need to cancel a camp session, please inform the Camp Director (camp@millicanreserve.com) immediately to begin cancellation and refund process, if applicable.

 

 

Refund Policy

The refunding of camp fees is as follows:

  • Notification two week prior to camp session qualifies for a full return.
  • Notification one week prior to camp session qualifies for 1/2 return.
  • This return will be noted by the Camp Director, forwarded to the main office and processed through original form of payment.
